Announcement: Gary Speed Retirement

After working with Gary "Speedy" Speed for 16 of his 47 years with the company, I would like to thank him for his dedication to the company and the farmers we serve. No matter what time of year, Gary gave 110 per cent to his fellow workers and his farmers. Whether it was pushing snow at 5 a.m. to make everyone’s day just a little easier or loading that last truck to help the trucking company better organize their next day.

Gary lives only a few houses away from the co-op, making him very accessible if a farmer needed something. If we weren’t open, they just drove down the street and said, “Hey Speedy, could you get me some chemical, fertilizer or empty this wagon so I can finish my field”.

And, let’s not forget the alarm system that would go off at 2 or 3 in the morning, sometimes weekly. Not once did Gary complain or even put down his time for it. He would say it only took a few minutes.

I could share many stories about this guy over his 47 years with the company, and there wouldn’t be any that didn’t have him putting the company and his farmers first.

Gary’s last day will be June 4, 2021, and he plans on spending time with his grandchildren, family and doing a lot of fishing.

So when you have a minute (not on company time), raise your glass and wish Gary Speed many years of happy retirement.
