We are pleased to announce that Korina Velema has joined the Chatham Central Office as our Nitrogen Project Lead.

Korina will be our Project Lead for the Adapt N Program. She will work closely with our team of Crop Specialists throughout our territory with interested customers/owners to implement the program.

This is a program designed to track the nitrogen status of individual corn fields. It starts with a field boundary to geolocate 35 years of weather history on that field then add in soil characteristics, crop management zones based on soil type and historical yield patterns. We then add in management information on planting dates, relative maturity ratings of hybrid(s) and fertility applications. The program thin tracks losses, mineralization and uptake of nitrogen by growth stage. If required it will make in season nitrogen rate recommendations on a field average or on site specific basis. Other duties as assigned will entail nitrate soil testing and plant tissue collection to further augment our understanding of the Nitrogen program

Korina grew up in Port Stanley where she gained a passion for agriculture and was inspired to peruse an education in the field. Korina will be entering her third year at the University of Guelph, in the Bachelor of Commerce program, majoring in Food and Agricultural Business and minoring in Agricultural Science. Korina enjoys playing hockey and softball, and being a part of committees that the University of Guelph offers such as the College Royal Society and Tractor Tug for Tots.

She is looking forward to gaining hands-on experience and furthering her knowledge in the agronomy industry. Please join us in welcoming Korina.

Co-operatively yours,
